Connection between LAA and Atrial Fibrialation
Atrial fibrillation (AF) impacts millions across the United States, it is not a curable disease and it will continue to impact millions more.
The irregular blood flow in the left atrium region causes clot formation, particularly in the Left Atrial Appendage (LAA). It has been observed that the LAA plays a substantial role in clot formation leading to strokes.
Discovering the intricate relationship between Left Atrial Appendage morphology and the hemodynamics at play during Atrial Fibrillation
Our innovative computational fluid dynamics model is designed to enhance the understanding of the left atrial appendage and its role in clot formation, particularly in patients with atrial fibrillation. Our groundbreaking study at AtriaLAAize aims to revolutionize atrial fibrillation treatment by leveraging advanced computational modeling techniques to develop personalized solutions for stroke prevention.
Utilizing medical imaging data, we construct precise models of individual LAA morphologies. The models of the different morphologies undergo computational fluid dynamics (CFD) study, where hemodynamics can be studied and quantified and the model can serve as tool to better understand the impacts of treatement options for different patients.
Upon receiving CT scans of the heart, our team will perform computational modeling and analysis to simulate flow dynamics within the LAA. Our product provides fluid flow predictions based on defined parameters such as boundary conditions and fluid motion laws. This model is unique in its ability to shed light on how anatomical variations can influence clot formation. It will be validated against existing computational studies and research papers, showing expected pressure and velocity profiles as well as predicted areas of stagnant flow or turbulence.
